My name is Renee Hurley.  I was born and raised near Wessington Springs, attended rural schools and graduated from WSHS in l965.

In l967 I graduated from NSU with a 2 Year Elementary Certificate.  The next 7 years of my teaching profession included 1 year in 3rd grade, l year at a rural school in Jerauld County, and Title Math.

Then it was off to Boise, Idaho, leaving the students behind, and started working with my husband as a building contractor for almost 5 years.

Upon returning to SD in 1980, I resumed working at WSES in the Resource Room as an aide.  Then it was back to college to get my BS, attending night classes and summer school.  Finally in 1987, I graduated from Huron University.  My teaching assignments have included 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.

My husband, Mel, and I raise Thoroughbred, Paint and Arabian horses, and have adopted wild mustangs from the BLM.  Summers you can find us in the hayfield putting up hay for the long winter.  We also spend many hours traveling to and from the race tracks.

Besides caring for the horses and haying, I enjoy gardening, crocheting, knitting, horseback riding, and attending our grandchildren's many activities.

Our grandchildren, Austin and Colisha are the greatest.  They are our pride and joy.  They attend school about 140 miles from us.  Austin is an outstanding athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and has qualified for the State Track Meet since he was a freshman.  Colisha plays volleyball and runs track.
